Leadership FOR (STEM) Learning
Standard 9
School/program provides within-school and extra-curricular opportunities for students to extend STEM learning.
D.A.T.E. extends an array of opportunities to our scholars. Our students are able to work digitally in both collaborative and individual capacities in class and at home. We are a one-to-one technology school where we ensure equity for all students by providing access to a computer device and digital resources 365 days a year. Each summer, students have opportunities to attend a STEM/STEAM camp to enrich them with continuous learning opportunities, during the extended break from the classroom.
D.A.T.E. partners with a number of entities to afford our scholars engaging experiences with STEM practitioners, community experts and other STEM professionals that have connected with the school to contribute to our College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) efforts while preparing them to compete in a real-world professional environment and strive in this 21st Century era. We are developing our scholars’ minds to gear toward pursuing careers as scientists, technicians, engineers, artists, and mathematicians, just to name a few. During our Career Days held twice a year, we bring in various professionals; veterinarians, farmers, software developers, aviation engineers, and pilots, financial analysts, biomedical engineers, computer systems engineers, forensic science technicians, and civil, mechanical and chemical engineers. All students have an opportunity to hear from these professionals and ask questions to panels to get a better understanding of how their day to day operations work in the real world. Other accelerated marginal groups such as high achievers earn the privilege to participate in internships that give them on the job work experience. These outstanding students are equipped to teach and mentor their peers who various times accompany us on our STEM/STEAM Dream Team Mobile Lab to assist them as they teach science, technology, engineering, art, and math to children ages 3-5.
Standard 10

School/program engages diverse STEM community in order to support and sustain STEM programs and initiatives.
As a charter school D.A.T.E. can not progress without the help of the community. There are various stakeholders, leaders, and organizations that have embraced the school’s vision and mission. Many of these stakeholders and organizations participate in various school activities throughout the school year. Their dedication has allowed us to establish and maintain the STEM work that is done on our campus and with our students.
Standard 12
School/program has established a shared vision for STEM and has leadership structures to support effective implementation
Our existing leadership structure was developed with our vision and mission in mind. It consists of leaders that work inside of the school and community leaders that support the school. The purpose of these leadership positions are to provide expertise that build and sustain the STEM initiatives of the building. Internally we have a STEM Coordinator, STEM Leadership Team, and Technology Team. External leadership positions include the school’s Advisory Board. Unique to our building would be the leadership opportunities that involve our students. These positions are held by students that have shown great interest in our STEM initiatives. Students can apply for these positions or they have been selected by students.
